Promoting the site
Promoting in DirectoriesOnline directories are a good place to promote your Web site. Many offer free entries and some provide the additional opportunity to advertise on their site to promote your site better. Here is a limited list (not necessarily recommended by Acro Logic) out of a huge amount of growing choice:
Note that, provided you have a business phone line, you will already have a free entry on the electronic versions of Yellow Pages and Thomson directories. Promoting: Free AdvertisingThere are opportunities to advertise on the Internet without spending a penny! - it just requires a little time to set it up. Banner Exchange SchemesThis can be achieved using a banner exchange scheme. These are based on the philosophy of if you show mine (advert) I will show yours. For example, if you show two "exposures" on your Web site of adverts belonging to others in the scheme, then your advert will be shown on someone else's Web site in the scheme. Of course, all of this is computerised and done automatically - once set up. An actual service that provides this is Link Exchange. If you already have a Web site then you could join the scheme today. All the details of this (and other Web promotion tools) are provided on their Web site. There are others that provide these services too - and some even show adverts in a 1:1 ratio. Co-operationOf course you can make agreements with owners of other Web sites. For a link from their Web site to yours you agree to return the favour. If you can get a recommendation (or award) too for good service then that is even better! Search Engine Ready
Promoting: Search engines
There are several hundred search engines on the Internet, each helping users to find the information that they are looking for. Many of these allow you to submit your details to their database - often indicated by the phrase "add URL". Here's a list of some popular ones (though remember there are lots and new ones emerging):
Have a look around the Internet and you may find some free, or paid, batch submission services that partially automate the registration process to multiple search engines. Some of the premium services offer extra capabilities such as submitting to a much larger number of search engines. You may want to have a look at Submit-it. However, you may need to be careful with automated submission services. Subscribe to the Acro Logic services to find out why. More |
