Idea Types

Idea Type 0: "What If"

The very first action that leads to an idea, and is itself an idea, is the "what if" question. The more quality "what if" questions that can be asked and answered, the greater the resulting number of quality ideas.

Idea Type 1: Concise

This type of idea has a very concise description, and lacks technical detail. It is normally generated along with many other Type 1 ideas, as part of an ideas generation process. A set of Type 1 ideas can be used to identify many potential possibilities, which may be developed further. They can also highlight opportunities that have not been considered before. A well known process for generating this type of idea is brainstorming, but Acro Logic uses superior tools and techniques for its ideas generation. Here is an example of the format.

Idea Type 2: Elaboration

A Type 2 idea elaborates on a Type 1 idea. It adds more detail. Such an idea may be described in one or two paragraphs; or may take up an entire page and, optionally, include diagrams. It may outline some of the technical aspects, but it does not include detailed technical designs. It contains little, or no, quantitative data.

Idea Type 3: Qualitative

Type 3 includes a Type 2 idea and a qualitative evaluation of its feasibility. Given that a Type 2 idea lacks technical details, the qualitative evaluation is subject to uncertainties and so has limited accuracy.

Idea Type 4: Technical

Type 4 is a technical elaboration of a Type 2, or Type 3, idea. It includes technical design details and, where appropriate, diagrams and quantitative data.

Idea Type 5: Quantitative

Type 5 includes a Type 4 idea and a quantitative evaluation of its feasibility. If such an idea is feasible then it forms the basis for the development of a prototype or trial, which may lead on to the manufacture of a production version or the implementation of a new methodology.
